Why do I still have the iPhoto application on my mac, and can I delete it?

I still have the iPhoto application on my MacBook. However, it is colored gray, and there's the word "Paused" underneath the icon when I look at it through launchpad.

Now that the application Photo is used, why is my iPhoto application still there? Should I delete it? Can I still use it?
