Phone dies when below 20%

My iPhone is now dying when the battery life is under 20%. Has anyone had this problem? I'm wondering if it's a hardware or software issue. Thanks

iPhone 5s, iOS 8.4

Could be either.

Make an appointment at the Genius Bar to have a diagnostic run on the battery.

Now it dies when below 60%, but when plugged in, and turned back on, the battery is still at the same spot it died at. Has anyone had this happen to them? Please Help!!
