Trouble updating the Watch to OS2

I have tried on three occasions so far to update the Watch to OS2. The app on my phone has downloaded the software twice, set up the preparing twice and gone through the 'verifying' stage three times. I have checked my phone periodically and it seems to take a very long time to verify. Then it goes back to square on. I have disabled the passcode on the Watch and it is still taking a long time just to verify.

What are are my options to resolve this problem

Hi

Ensure that your have updated your iPhone to iOS 9 or later - this is required in order to update your watch to watchOS 2:

Update the iOS software on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

If your iPhone is already running iOS 9 or later, try these steps, which have worked for others who have experienced issues at the "verifying" stage. However, do not interrupt your iPhone or watch if the process has already reached the "installing" stage.

On your iPhone, close the Apple Watch app along with all other open apps (double-press on the Home button, swipe up on the app previews).

Remove your watch from the charger and restart both devices, turning both off and then restarting your iPhone first:

- To turn your watch off: press and hold the side button until you see the Power Off slider; drag it to turn off.

- To turn it back on: press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.

Then replace your watch on the charger and try updating again.
