How to set as default column width in list view for file and folder names?

I have been using OSX for over 15 years now, I still don't get why when I open my folder, the name column is set to super narrow column.

It is very annoying as I can read the file names.

Not only is it annoying but once expand width where I can read the names, on return to the same folder it resets to the narrow column width again!!

This affects my productivity whenever I do any work, especially file names that are recurring.

eg. Name of topic and version number.

I rarely can see the version number at the end of the file name as it is hidden and have to manually expand column each time.
So lots of hair pulling daily!!

I am using latest El Capitan on a Macbook pro.

Can anyone find a solution to this? It is so annoying!!!
