You can only update to the most recent IOS 9.0.2 so updating to IOS 8.4.1 is out of the question. I've had three major updates since I bought my iPad 4 and consider IOS 9 by far and away the most trouble free. If you decide to update always be sure to have a iTunes or iCloud backup just in case.
