When an email has been filtered to a particular mailbox it does not sound its arrival. Is there any way to fix this so that it does? I particularly want this to work on the phone (IOS9)
in iPhone iOS9:
Settings->Notifications->Mail-> set allow notifications, then scroll to the mail address (when have more) and set the notifications to what you want: Show in notifications..., Sounds, Badge..., Show on lock screen, and you can choose the style.

Thanks for this. In fact I he'd the notifications set as you suggest but I don't understand your last and possibly crucial step. You say to scroll down to the email addresses but I'm not clear where you intend for me to scroll to for the email address as they do not appear in the notification tab
Settings->Notifications->Mail here you set "allow Notifications" to ON.
Under that you have your email addresses listed (one or more).
select (click) the email address, now you get to see all possible settings as I mentioned above.

From that photo you posted, it appears that you only have one mail account on the device. Are you filtering your mail at the server level? If it is getting moved to a different mailbox folder than the Inbox before it arrives on the iPhone, that is why you are not getting an alert. The iPhone only alerts the Inbox.
Thank you for that. I guess that explains my problem. The mail also come to my Mac where the separate mailboxes originated.
