Brightness buttons not working after Windows update

Hi there

I recently installed Windows 7 fine, all volume/brightness buttons working fine.

Once installed Windows detected it needed an update, this it has done including Service pack 1, now the brightness buttons don't work nor the "slider" in the bootcamp control panel. (Volume ones still fine)

Sounds like a driver issue but I've reinstalled the downloaded bootcamp drivers but it hasn't helped.

Any thoughts please?

Can you check if the Apple Keyboard driver is still installed in Device Manager?

Hi, the device driver for the keyboard is showing as a windows one.

The volume buttons are working fine though? Strange.

You should repair the BC drivers and get the Apple drivers installed.

Hi Loner

Have just tried reinstalling the drivers. It's showing the correct Apple driver provider in the Device manager, still no brightness buttons working though.

Out of interest, when I press the brightness keyboard buttons the brightness scale does appear on the screen and responds correctly to up/down presses, just no actual change in brightness on the screen.

Sorry for the delay.

I've read the link you kindly sent, I have to say the SMC reset sounds more for Mac related issues, and within the Mac OS it's all working great.

The other issue I have with Bootcamp is it won't restart in Windows from sleep. But I understand that's quite common?

There is a common database maintained in SMC across the two OSes. The drivers will communicate will consult this database and work with the firmware. Usually driver modifications in Windows require a reboot. Please try both, Reboot first, and then a SMC reset.
