Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
A while after installing El Capitan, I got pop-up on the desktop saying "To use the java command-line tool you need to install a JDK." You can click More or OK. With OK, it keeps popping up. With More, you're taken to Adobe, where they guide you through an installation, which they then pronounce successful. Problem is, the pop-up window keeps coming back at random times. You can't contact Adobe. Any ideas?

Java comes from Oracle, not Adobe (or, an old installer from Apple). Can you give us more detail about what happens - again?
I'm just guessing here that you have some browser plug-in that requires java, or you've enabled java in Safari.
Or that you've installed a malware version of FlashPlayer, instead of going direct to Adobe.com (not from a popup) for that.
The pop-up may be asking for the latest version of Java from Apple. That's often what Adobe is looking for.

Re your question, no malware FlashPlayer here. Yeah, I was wondering if it was Adobe or Oracle - kind of forgot. Anyway, am trying FatMac's suggestion below. Is Java NOT supposed to be enabled in Safari - and where does that happen?

Good question but you don't need to worry. The first link in the Apple Support document in my original link says "This update uninstalls the Apple-provided Java applet plug-in from all web browsers."
