Is this performance normal for a mac mini

Hi,

I was deciding on buying a new computer about a month ago and I decided on a Mac mini, I'm new to the Mac OS so didn't really know what to expect except the good reputation that they have.

I went for the Mac mini, it's one of the lower specification ones but it has a i5 processor, 4GB of Ram and it's not that much lower than my windows machine specs so I thought it would be fine to use.

I knew there was no option for upgrading but as this was replacing a 8 year old PC I thought that it would be an improvement.

Since I got it and set it up the performance has been really terrible in my opinion and I'm mainly comparing it to my main PC with similar specs.

Boot up takes at least 4 minutes, I have to walk away.

launching an app from the launcher takes between 30 seconds to a minute it's just there bouncing.

The internet is really slow compared to before, switching tabs there's a pause of a second or 2.

Simple copying and pasting, I have to do it really slowly.

Trying to locate folders is a pain because I have to wait for the finder to start and then clicking through the folders

The only programs I have installed are word and brackets,a text editor.

At this stage now it's just a case of having to go back to a 8 year old pc because it just takes too long to do things on the mac.

I just need to know is this what is expected?,

I bought a lower priced mac mini, that as good as the performance gets, tough or should I have better performance.

What can I do, it's only 2 weeks old.

Thanks

Mac mini, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

Although you weren't specific in the model Mini, based on the 4GB memory,

it is the 1.4 GHz i5, which is no means a speed demon but should be somewhat

better than you are seeing (personally I would have paid the extra $200 to get twice the RAM,

twice the HDD size, and nearly double the CPU performance, but thats just me).

Something to check, open Applications->Utilities->Activity Monitor check the different

items, especially CPU and Memory for any apparent excessive usage.

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.

If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

Here's report printout from,

The only thing I can see is that Google Chrome is taking nearly all the memory, could some tabs on Google Chrome be killing the performance of the computer?
