Connecting phone to iTunes

I tried connecting my phone to my laptop using cable, my phone was charging and i'm able to access my photos and all, but my iTunes wouldn't show my phone and i can't sync my phone because of this. I tried uninstalling iTunes and downloading it again but it wouldn't work. I only start facing this problem after i updated my phone and iTunes
