iPad Air 2 mail freezes

JJust upgraded to 9 and now mail is really slow and frequently freezes. It almost never updates new message count I frequently have to kill the app to get things working again. I have readded all of the accounts and that did not do it. Exchange seems to be the worst Actually. I think my yahoo and gmail such is fine. Ideas?
