How do I remove a Tag from a document in Finder?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4), Lack of apparent consistent cross .

Howdy Richtim,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities.


If you'd like to un-tag an item, then please follow the directions below.


Un-tag an item: Control-click it or tap it with two fingers, then choose Tags. Select the tag you want to remove, then press Delete.

To remove every instance of a tag from all files and folders, choose Finder > Preferences, then click Tags. Put the pointer on a tag, Control-click or tap with two fingers, then choose Delete Tag.
