mail preferences to get mail manually

I want to set my mail preferences to get email manually from mail provider server.

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11)

Hi.

Go into your Email app. Click the bolded name in the menu bar, then select preferences. Under general, you can select to have mail fetched manually (it's the third option down).

Thanks for your answer. However, this didn't work. The option "check for new messages, manually" was checked but my email still loaded automatically. What I did do and is now working is this.

In the mail preferences, accounts, advanced, uncheck the box "include when automatically checking for new messages"

Maybe having both of these is doing the trick. Anyway it's working now.
