iPad Mini 4 Only 8hrs of Battery Life!!

Anyone else who just purchased a new iPad mini 4 experiencing poor battery life? Apple's claims of 10 hours in the past were always very conservative, but now current iPads are getting poor battery life. Last year I returned a new iPad Air 2 because the battery life was under 10 hours (half brightness setting and just for web browsing). Heck, it was getting noticeably less battery life than my 2 year old iPad 4!

Now my new iPad mini 4 is even worse! It gets considerably less battery life than my iPad 4, which after 3 years is giving me 10 hours (give or take a few minutes)! When it was new it gave me at least 11.5 hours on iOS 6. My new iPad mini 4 is giving me 8hrs of battery life, (give or take a few minutes)! This is freakin ridiculous! That's also after having disabled every known feature that could be using up the battery.

In their ridiculous quest to keep making every device thinner and thinner, Apple has now ruined what used to be the best battery life in the industry!

I'm well experienced with iPads, and troubleshooting them, and I have now tested the mini 4 quite a number of times with full charges and I get the same **** results. How the **** can Apple claim to even give you 10 hours of battery life when obviously that is no longer true??!!

Please refrain from offering the usual troubleshooting advice such as restarting, resetting, restoring to factory state, checking battery status for a particular offending app, etc. I've done them all. Like I said, I'm very experienced with iPads and I have tried everything. My post is more about hearing about other people's experiences, and getting them to complain to Apple. That said, if you have any other ideas then I'm all ears.

What is now clear to me is that this is the same nonsense that occurred when Apple introduced the thinner iPad Air 2, which ended up losing a disturbing amount of battery life compared to the iPad Air.

I'll play with it a couple of more days and if no solution is found then back to the store it goes, and another lost sale for Apple from a veteran iPad and Mac user. In the past I must have gotten at least 50 people to buy iPads. No more; I can no longer recommend them. In fact, I will now actively advise that people not buy them! The software quality, design and reliability is also now quite poor the past few years. Safari is a bloated and unstable disaster with still many incompatibilities with websites and the select and copy and paste function is still broken since iOS 7.

Really sad Apple! This is not how you turn iPad sales around!!!

Have you tried minimizing all of the iOS eye candy motion effects by turning ON reduced motion in the settings app in the left General panel under Acessibility located in the right panel?

This may help both performance AND battery life.

Also, the Select, Copy, Paste functions have improved in iOS 9.

If, you use gestures, a two finger tap on the iOS software keyboard invokes a pseudo track pad function where you can more accurately place the cursor "I" beam.

For pasting, once you bring up the software keyboard, you can place the cursor where you want it and do a double tap in a blank area of a text box to invoke the paste functionality.

@Briansyddall Why on earth would you accept 8 hours of battery life if Apple claims 10??

I also wrote exactly what I do when I test the iPads. Just Safari browsing yields only 8 hours of battery life on the new iPad mini4! No one in their right mind should be happy with that after Apple claims 10 hours!

Apple claims no such thing. They claim "up to 10 hours"

Yes, all of the known battery eating functions were turned off.

The Select. Cut, Copy, and Paste function is improved in no significant way. Placing the cursor is not the only problem. It is a broken function since iOS 7 that simply can not be relied upon. It's amazing how awful it is. It is staggering how a company with all the resources that Apple has, continues to leave this basic function broken.

"Apple claims no such thing. They claim "up to 10 hours""

They say "Up to 10 hours of surfing the web on Wi‑Fi." I get only 8hrs!!!

The fact is, the current iPads are getting smaller batteries and dramatically less battery life than they used. It is because of people like you that keep accepting such BS in Apple's products that they keep getting worse.

I also asked for people's experience with the new iPad mini 4, and perhaps a solution to the battery issue, assuming it is not normal for this new iPad, which unfortunately I think it is. You are not providing that so please move along, Apple apologist.

Well,

The " issue" with copying and pasting in Safari isn't well known to me.

I have been using Safsri to respond to postings on these forums for awhile and since iOS 9, and cut, copy, paste works better than ever for me.

I do not see whatever you say is "broken" about this functionality

Again, you don't state what the issue with this is and you just make a general, blanket statement that this is a commonly known issue.

I have been active on these forums for many years, and I am not aware of a cut, copy, paste issue related to Safari since iOS 7.

Maybe you consider this functionality "broken" because you do not like the way the functionality works, now and preferred the older way which I can't seem to recall how this worked prior to iOS 7.

I DO remember having more issues with the cut, copy, pasting functions in iOS 5 and 6 and really didn't like the old way it worked for those reasons.
