on Safari startup page I get a tech support message

Everytime I use Safari (V.8.08) on my older MacBook Pro, I get a message that takes over the page re: pop-ups endangering my computer. I think it's "fake", just getting me to buy a new service. The web site is www.mmz0.com or www.m2yl.com, and it directs me to an immediate chat room to discuss my problem. I don't see any indication it's an Apple support issue. Phone # is 1-844-652-0110

Is this fake from a third party advertiser as I suspect? How can I stop it from popping up?

Thanks! Joe

MacBook Pro (15-inch 2.4/2.2 GHz), OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)
