Cannot login to iCloud, App Store and iTunes Store after installing EI Capitan

MacBook Pro 15" Retina, bought in early September. Everything was fine and migration from my old MacBook Pro was smooth. Then on 3 Oct, I downloaded the new EI Capitan and installed. After installing EI Capitan, I was asked to sign in to iCloud. After I gave correct Apple ID and password, a small box titled "Verification failed" appeared with the message "This action couldn't be completed. Try again." The same message appeared when I tried to sign in to App Store and iTunes Store.

I have contacted Apple Telephone support five times and talked to a few products specialists. It seems everything is fine, and last night one technician asked me to reinstall EI Capitan. And I did. Unfortunately, the same problem and message remain.

Any suggestion? Thank you in advance.

I have the exact same problem as can login with my apple id on other devices/laptops but cannot on this imac. I'm also seeing the same screenshot given above. This is apparently an old issue, but it still exists to this day. C'mon Apple! How about answering this problem with possible solutions?

The only other potential clue I can add to this is that I had previously needed to restore time machine to a previous copy of El Capitan (I didn't have my upgrade to Sierra backed up). Now I am restored but unable to login to store and get Sierra re-installed.

I'm thinking to just create a new id all together and see if that works for me to get Sierra and hopefully be able to resolve this issue once back on it. But that's just plain stupid that I'd have to resort to that.

In the end, finally resolved by calling apple support and getting elevated to upper level tech, where eventually we discovered missing shared folder in /Users. Adding a shared folder resolved my issue. Here’s the steps to reproduce solution if it applies to you:

- Finder > Go > Go to Folder

- enter /Users :: Go

- if no Shared folder, open Terminal to create one in /User

- Enter commands in Terminal (must be logging in as user with admin access):

- sudo mkdir -p /Users/Shared

- sudo chmod 1777 /Users/Shared/

- reboot and see if can now login to iCloud

Lots of people seem to have had this problem and for them it seemed to rectify itself, however I am still having problems! I upgraded from Mavericks to El Capitan about a month ago, 2010 MacBook Pro.

Every time I try to login to iCloud on my Mac I get the same server error message. Have attached photo for reference. I know for sure that I am using the correct Apple ID as it works on both my iPhone and iPad.

User uploaded file

Incredibly irritating as it means I can't access iTunes or install updates via the App Store. Also, I keep getting a message popping up every time I'm online (telling me it can't connect to iCloud) which is really annoying as it interrupts everything! I'd say roughly once a minute.

Never had a problem with Mavericks.
