Q: MacBook turns on to disk utility

Yesterday I wanted to restore my MacBook late 2009 model to its original factory settings, after browsing the internet I found I could go to disk utility and erase the hard drive. After doing so I cant exit the disk utility page and I can't redownload Mac OS X via the 2nd prompt or via the disk that came with my computer. I was wondering if there was anyway to fix my computer and make it usable again I have no time machine backup but I do have a newer MacBook Pro early 2014 model or late 2013 I'm unsure, anyway, is there anyway I could use a backup from that on my older computer? I'm not really tec savvy so if you could please reply in a simple term and explain the process clearly I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks ☺️
