Epson Perfection V600 Scanner not working with El Capitan

I'm on a MacBook Pro, upgraded from Lion to El Capitan. My Epson Perfection V600 scanner doesn't work now. When I try to scan it attempts to open it on the Mac, but then before it can finish, it closes the Epson down.

I went to event manager and it created a huge report that I have sent to Apple.

Has anyone found a solution to this problem?

Can you scan directly from the scanner using the Apple Preview application?

Hamrick software's VueScan product supports the V600 scanner providing the Epson drivers are installed and functional. You might try VueScan as a test of the scanner drivers, though VueScan is ultimately a paid product.

I have owned VueScan for years and receive no compensation, or other favorable consideration from the vendor for mentioning it.

Thanks so much! I did this, and that crazy pop up window is gone (for now)..but no matter what I do, the scanner does not show up in system preferences under printers and scanners. So I can't reset it.

I am able to scan if I open the Epson Scan software, but nothing happens when I try to scan directly from the scanner. If I open Epson Scan Setting from the launchpad and click test, it says my scanner is not ready, interface unknown.

Here is the correct answer.

Took me about an hour to find someone at Epson who actually knew how to do it. All the work arounds about restarting, and so forth don't have anything to do with it. Must have done them all about twenty times.

1. Download the ICA Scanner Driver v. 5.8.6 for Image Capture software as well as the Scanner Driver and Scan Utility V.3.9.4.0. Restart computer.

2. Open up the image capture app in El Capitan.

3. Go to file on the menu bar, then click on "reset Twain devices". Restart

4. That's all there is to it. Now you will see the scanner in the Printers and Scanner box in System preferences and

it will work in Photoshop.

Howdy Jody,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

It sounds like there's an issue with printer or scanner software quitting unexpectedly after upgrading your MacBook Pro to OS X El Capitan. Try taking a look at the article below and try running through the troubleshooting suggestions that it provides, the tips will resolve issues with both printers and scanners.

Thank you, Jody, that's plenty.

Epson's app is crashing, so they'll need to provide a fix. You may be able to workaround it though. Have you tried scanning from Preview or ImageCapture, if the device shows up in those apps? If the scanner doesn't appear in those apps, you should contact Epson to see if they have any reports of this.

I hope this helps.
