Q: AIRDROP NOT WORKING! El Capitan

I know this topic has been addressed a lot already...

The issue is I can't really say Airdrop is not working at all. Somehow is does work between my MacBook Air (Mid 2012) and my iPhone 5c but it does not work between my iMac (late 2013) and my iPhone.

The weird thing is that I have to use the "Don't see who you are looking for?" link in finder for trying to connect bot Macs. Since the Airdrop connection work with the MacBook Air and the iPhone I assume that my iMac late 2013 is recognized as an "older" Mac. Why is that?

Apple clearly says that for sharing files between mobile devices and Macs the Mac needs to be newer than 2012! Which is the case with my iMac.

What is going wrong? Do I have a special iMac not supporting the Airdrop feature with mobile devices?

Gosh, Apple needs to fix that Airdrop issues at some point. This is really annoying!

Thanks for any hint.

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11), late 2013 (21.5", 2.7GHz)

I tried the solution in this thread - no luck.

I believe I have tried every single method mentioned all over the internet including this one.  No luck at all.

Phone is set to everyone, computer set to everyone

Would love to make this feature work...

When I tried to turn off Bluetooth, I received this message on my Mac: "You cannot control your computer if you turn Bluetooth off at this time."

I had the same problem, Noticed while updating and embracing / setting up photo sharing and home sharing. Erased phone and re set up phone from scratch to purge unused apps as opposed to just restoring old back up with all apps and settings. Was concerned all that old stuff was causing issues with sluggish speed and security threats from questionable sources.  Any way tried tons of fixes.  First did the delete, preferences/com bluetooth file on Mac.  Didn't fix the problem by that one action.  Then changed the password for Itunes on all devices.  Now Airdrop from Mac to Iphone 6s 2014 works fine.  Would advise doing password fix first.  Now Im backing up and then restoring clean back up.  Will add apps and services one at a time to isolate if problem comes back with individual third party apps.

    Good Luck

Same issue here, very very annoying.

I just bought the top end 15" Macbook Pro, clean install from the factory. And I have a new iPhone 6. They just will not see eachother, very frustrating.

Followed some of the steps on here > Removed the .plist file / logged in to iTunes and iCould with the same account password etc.

NOTHING. Spend 2k on a new machine with features that simply dont work.....

Not sure how this is possible on an iMac, where the keyboard and mouse are both connected via bluetooth. In the past, when I have accidentally turned off  bluetooth on the iMac, I have found no way to reconnect to it once the mouse is disconnect. Not possible to navigate through the menu items just by using the keyboard to go and re-activate bluetooth. Even the Apple geniuses couldn't help me resolve this until I connected a wired mouse to the iMac.

Please let me know if I am missing anything?

Same here, I guess Apple introduced this feedback message for iMacs where you lose control of the computer once you turn off bluetooth, becuz thats the only way to connect to it with the mouse.
