Downgrade to Mavericks

Hi everyone, first, i'm sorry if I didn't posted in the right forum.

Here's my problem: I plan on buying a MacBook Pro Retina but i'm pretty sure it's going to come pre-installed with Yosemite / El Capitan, and the thing is, I don't want any of these on my Mac because I prefer the look and feel of Mavericks over the newer versions of OS X.

I tried searching and found out you couldn't even start the installer of Mavericks on newer MacBooks, is it true?

And no, I don't have any Time machine backup (Windows User)

You cannot get Mavericks or Yosemite from the App Store now. You cannot install an older version of OS X on a machine that shipped with a newer release of OS X. The hardware device support for the new machine is not in the older release of OS X.

El Capitan is a substantial improvement over Maverick in every regard. Apple is about change, not dormancy.

Thanks for the answers. Well, I don't find that great that it's not "retro-compatible" when you know that Mavericks is not even one year old. I guess i'm going to get used to the cold and Windows 8-esque look of El Capitan. Or, if I get a 2013 MBP, which versions of OS X can I install?

I'm not against change, but Apple could at least make an effort and give it's users the benefit of choice between the new look and the old look of OS X. Seriously, i.m.o, the last versions of OS X look like a cheap Linux desktop or an OS X theme made for Windows 8. But hey, if that's progress.

I may be not an Apple specialist (Having owned only an Indigo G3) nor a big electronics company CEO, but Apple should make their hardware compatible with at least Mavericks, it's not complicated! Windows and Linux can do it, so why not Apple?

I dont care about the looks but functionality. The worst part is new OS X El Cap or Yos has worse font rendering, small and thin fonts and harder to read on even macbook pro retina and imac Retina. I ended up buying macbook pro retina 2014 and installed Mavericks on it. I am also selling my iMac retina. Stg is really wrong, gave many feedbacks to Apple, some adjustment I see from Apple but still not like Mavericks or previous font rendering. Color scheme and font rendering is real issue for the productivity and eyesight.

Apple has never allowed installing an older OS version than what the machine came with.

And, Yosemite was introduced last year (one year old), so Mavericks was introduced in 2013 which makes it 2 years ago.

Earlier this year I purchased a late 2012 iMac from the Apple refurb store purposely - it came with Mountain Lion and I've been running Mavericks on it because that it the last OS version that allows me to run my movie apps. I am running the latest (El Capitan) on my MBP (which also came with ML); I have bootable clones made before upgrading, so I could easily revert if I wanted to. So, if you want to run an older OS, consider checking the refurb section at the Apple store - the inventory changes rapidly; a 2013 machine might come with Mavericks. I managed mine by starting a store chat and telling them I only want it if it has ML or Mavericks installed. That worked!

If you would like to run mavericks on an internal drive on a mac book pro please make sure you buy one from late 2013 at the latest. Used is your best option ebay apple refurb craigslist :/ Search for creating bootable mavericks installers... I know mac world has a few articles on how to's. Go with the usb option, and then create one for every os x apple comes out with if your ecosystem is mac-centric. That way your always good. Very few people know that with a few tricks you can creat a bootable external drive... Meaning buy a high quality external hard drive install mavericks os x on it plug it in to a usb thunderbolt port on your 2014-15 MBP and then via the (startup drive) in (preferences) you can actually boot and run Mavericks on a new macbook pro.... There are internet intructables on youtube and reputable websites... Many people need new computers for peripheral connectivity for their jobs and still need to run software that is only operational on mavericks. Make sure your hard drive is quality if you plan on going this route. In the solid state categories the samsung evo 850 or the owc ssd's will work great!

Im all for progress, but more and more the smart creative company and its users / employees seem to be turning in to cultists following the dogma passed down from above. That being said its the shareholders fault they have to move so rapidly to turn a quartly profit. They still make great products that last a long time taken care of the right way... but their developers need to slow down and not get rid of great features that help power users and home computer users alike for the sake of simplicity, empower us, don't dumb us down, we get enough of that from everywhere else... Shouldnt come from apple as well! 😉

hope the info helps!
