Apple Pay Unreliable

I'm finding that whilst it was fine here in the UK at launch - I had no failures in the first weeks of use - recently it seems to be very unreliable.

Yesterday it was fine at two different outlets, this morning it wouldn't work at all - tried twice then gave up and tapped with a contactless card on the same reader which worked instantly so the issue was definitely with Apple Pay.

Not really impressed. If the watch is going to be hit-and-miss I might as well just pull out one of the several contactless cards I have.......

Also: did you present your watch to the terminal correctly?

To use Apple Pay on your watch, quickly double-press the side button. Your default card will be displayed. If you have added other cards and wish to use one of them instead, swipe to switch between cards. With your preferred card displayed, hold your watch up to the terminal:

- The watch face should be facing and parallel with the terminal's own screen (you should not be able to see the watch face whilst paying), aligned centrally with the contactless logo on the terminal screen and held closer than 10cm.

- It should be held in that position for up to a few seconds, until you hear the confirmation beep and haptic pulse.

I have just recently been using Apple Pay. I have had my 6 for a year now and was reluctant to use it. I must admit I love it. I has worked every time so far and I hope it will continue to work in the future. The thing that thru me off was NFC I seen several locations that offered it however I was now aware that my phone would work at those locations.

Thanks for the advice but yes that's what I did. I have noticed that the watch says 'Done' whereas the terminal doesn't, so I think this is a pretty major software bug / incompatibility although clearly that's just a guess. Odd that it failed twice yet a 'real' contactless card worked instantly. I think the watch implementation is poor basically.......
