Transferring Photos App Library that references Aperture

Hello all,

I've always had an Aperture Library and once Photos came around I transferred my photo library into the new Photos app for Mac. Although Finder presents these two library as both being approximately the same size, it is been made aware to me that Photos merely 'references' the Aperture Library.

Does this mean when transferring the Photos Library to an external Hard Drive the Aperture Library must me moved too?

I hope to view the library on an external HDD from a reformatted iMac.

Thanks

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11)

No

The Photos does not "reference" the Aperture library - they both link to the same original photos and previews using hard links - Photos saves disk space by sharing images with your iPhoto or Aperture libraries - Apple Support

There is no connection of any sort between the two libraries and you can change, delete or move either one without having any effect on the other one - if you move one to a different drive the hard linked file swill be copied too
