Q: iDVD button greyed out

Hi,

I have a SuperDrive connected to my iMac. I'm trying to burn some DVDs. I've done so before on this iMac with this SuperDrive before.

I am able to play DVDs through the Superdrive without problem.

I am also able to burn DVDs through the finder.

But I want to burn through the iDVD application so I can fancy up the interface.

But my burn button on the iDVD screen is greyed out.

How can i fix this?

iDVD 7.1, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

Have you tried different ports for the drive, unplug and plugin the drive with iDVD running, etc. You should consider following this workflow and burning the disk with Disk Utility:

Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.

To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.

Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
