How do I connect to my A/V receiver for audio

I was comparing Apple TVs at http://www.apple.com/tv/compare/ to see which one I might buy. I noticed that the $149 model does not have any audio out so I was wondering how I get audio to my A/V receiver. The Apple TV would be connected to my TV via an HDMI cable, but then I'd have to run an audio cable to the receiver so I could use my A/V system. Has anyone done this? How does the audio sound compared to using an audio output from the Apple TV directly to the receiver?

The new tv depends on HDMI for audio as well as video, so connect

it to your receiver and it will carry the audio signal back to along with

I'm assuming your older receiver doesn't support HDMI. Thanks; I'll keep that handy. Looks like it could be mounted next to the Apple TV and connect with the shortest HDMI cable I can find, then use a regular HDMI cable to go to the TV and either RCA analog or Optical audio to the A/V receiver.
