Q: Disable Apple News App?

Does anyone know how I can disable the Apple news app in iOS 9?   I see it's an apple app so I can't remove it. I would setle for disabling it so I'm not getting the feeds supplied to my front page with Siri and nearby suggestions.  ThankS.

I tried that the other day and it's still showing up. I thought that would have turned it off too.  It didn't work on either my iPhone or iPad.   There must be a way to remove it or turn it off.

That worked.  Its a couple more steps though.  Its a combination of yours and Zandy_Jay's link above.

Settings > General > Spotlight Search > Turn of Spotlight suggestions instead of Turn off news.

Thank you both very much.   It would be a good app accept I checked off conservative feeds. All it was sending me was liberal links.

    Thank you both very much.

While it (and frankly no source) is going to divide everything into "Liberal" and "Conservative" you can control the source of articles that it pulls in: http://help.apple.com/iphone/9/#/iph0a16d1e29

I ran into the same problem. Thank you for asking this question. No matter what news or media sources I chose within the app the only articles I received were liberal garbage. It made the spotlight feature practically useless, and in total was not a good experience.

This is false. Even if you only select only apolitical tech and science sources the only thing that consistently displays are articles from msnbc, and other similar rags that all have a severe liberal bias.

MSNBC and other liberal news is still polluting my spotlight screen even after shutting the news down.

Maybe you should read a few, you might learn something.

When you get an article in the feed from a source that you do not wish have, open the article, tap the Share icon (upper right, box with an arrow), then select Mute Channel.

But if the only thing you are looking for is Fox News and Breitbart, you might want to stick to their apps.

It doesn't work. I select science and tech within the app, which is the "news" I would hope to see and get nothing but MSNBC, Huffington Post, etc... I find if I mute one source, several others pop up to replace it. I am not interested in politics.

Thank you for your feedback Kilgore-Trout. The Spotlight fix is working, whereas the mute option did not. Our devices are used strictly for business purposes, and the incoming feed sources were both distracting and upsetting to some employees. Tech and science are the core focus of our business, and the company policy dictates the iPhone devices be used within this scope. We could not accomplish this with the native news program active on the devices.

Then have employees use the Favorites tab rather the For You tab. The news app is a curated News aggregator, at least as far as the For You section is concerned. It is quite explicitly promoted that way. But given the nature of your earlier statements, you have to forgive me if I find the comment about this being "distracting and upsetting to some employees" to be a bit disingenuous. At any rate, there are numerous news apps in the App Store. I'm sure you can find one that meets your criteria.

I find it absolutely disgusting that Apple chooses to promote only liberal sources as if those are the only "news" that matters. I will never by another Apple product as long as this remains the case.

I will have to disagree with you. I never found Apple promoting anything. I like Fox News and chose that as my news source. Of course you are free to chose any product that best meets your needs. I would suggest that you investigate as much as possible so that it does not offer something that you don't like.
