Q: No imap receive mail connection with El Capitan

Good morning.

I have a mac mini that's been running well for years, and I have many mail rules on it which of course affect what mail i get on my iPad and iPhone.

When I upgraded to el Capitan, I get no longer get email to my iCloud account on the mini, but everything is ok on the iPad and iPhone.  I can send mail from my iCloud account on the mini, but not get.  When I go to diagnostics, it says that I connect to the SMTP server for sending mail, but I do not get a connection to the p99... IMAP server for getting mail.

I can't change the IMAP server in MAIL->Preferences->accounts.  I tried deleting my iCloud account in System Prefs - it gives me some warnings but nothing happens.

Though I do not use my mini much anymore, it does control my Rules, and I am getting about 200% more mail than usual on my iPhone and iPad.  Any suggestions?

It baffles me that Apple has yet to provide a way to export Mail Rules to iCloud, but whatever.

Steve

When you were in System Preferences, did you sign out of iCloud and then sign back in?

    HI Eric

when in sys pref I could not find a logout.  When I tried to delete the  account with the - sign, I received some warning about losing some data and when I clicked continue, nothing happened. Account was still there.  If I go to iCloud.com, all is well, receiving mail there no,prob.  Just can't get an I map receive connection in Mail on Mac, and server is greyed out so I can't try another one.  Have restarted mail many times and rebooted Mac.  No other problems seen.

In the iCloud pane of System Preferences, uncheck the box marked Mail and check it again.

Please sign out of iCloud in its preference pane and see whether there's any change. No data will be removed from the servers, and you can retrieve it by signing back in. That said, you should always have a current archive of the data for safety's sake, even if you don't sign out.

If you use iCloud Keychain, when you sign back in to iCloud follow one of the procedures described in this support article to set it up on an additional device.

OK, I went to iCloud in Sys Pref and logged out.  The process generated a lot of warning messages, many of which were not all that clear.  Logged back in and Mail is working pretty much normally, though very slow as it is downloading 30K old emails.  Calendar seems to be properly populated, getting ready to check on Contacts and Keychain.
