Unable to shut down

I have upgraded my 27" iMac to OS X 10.11, and now I am unable to do a clean shutdown. This happened before, but rarely, and it was usually the cause of one of my many external hard drives I have connected to it via a USB hub. I thought this might be the problem this time, so I disconnected the USB hub and all I had connected to my iMac was the USB keyboard, SuperDrive, and a USB extender that has nothing connected to it at this time. If I start up my iMac, get to the desktop, and decide to shutdown within a few seconds, no issue. But if I use the iMac for a while then decide to shut down, the menu bar and desktop items go away, but it will not shut down. I can reopen any app and the menu bar comes back, but as soon as I quit every app, the menu bar goes back away. I try to shut down or even restart by opening any app except for the Finder, but it will not shut down. Some start-up items that I have are iTunes Helper, Google Drive, Mediafire, Dropbox, Beats Updater, Norton, and OneDrive.

When trying to shutdown, this is the message I'm getting in Console. Can anyone tell what my problem could be by seeing this?

loginwindow[103]: ERROR | -[SessionLogoutManager startLogout:logoutSubType:showConfirmationUI:countDownTime:useTALOption:logoutO ptions:] | Attempt to start a: Shutdown, AFTER a Shutdown was already past the point where logout can change types
