Slow download from iTunes Home Video to Apple TV

When trying to download a home video from itunes to Apple TV, larger sized videos download extremely slowly. After a lengthy partial download the video will start to play but usually but catch up to the download and another delay occurs. A 10 minute video could take up to 20 minutes to fully download. I am using an iMac desktop with Yosemite and an Apple TV 3 with a very high speed router.

After reviewing many forum posts, I found the solution to this problem:

1) Import the file into iTunes Home Videos folder.

2) Click as follows: File>Create New Version>Create iPad or Apple Tv Version

3) Delete or move the larger original file out of iTunes

The file is converted to a much smaller file size and immediately downloads to Apple TV for immediate viewing. I have not noticed any degradation of video quality.
