Choppy playback of iPhone video uploads?

I took some videos on my iPhone and uploaded them onto my Macbook. Whenever I play them in Quicktime Player, the audio is perfectly fine but the video is extremely choppy. I've uploaded them onto Facebook and the playback from there is fine. What could be causing my Quicktime issue?

For reference:

My OS is El Capitan, though I had the issue previously in Yosemite.

The video info, not sure what's relevant: Dimensions 1080 x 1920, Codecs H.264, AAC, mebx, Color profile: HD (1-1-1).

I've also tried playback in iTunes and iMovie and had the same issue.
