How to clean inside the lighting connector?

Hey guys so i just got an iPhone 6S on launch and a few days after use i noticed some dust in the lighting connector. The connector works fine but i have the gold color and i have ocd so it really bugging me. So my question is does anybody know how to correctly clean the inside of the lighting connector without damaging it. A few websites suggest you stick a tooth pick in and clean out the dust like that but I'm not sticking a tooth pick in my phone!

iPhone 6s, iOS 9.0.2, 16 GB Verizon Gold

A toothpick is ideal. It's soft enough so it won't scratch the plating on the contacts, and it will break before causing any damage.
