I found a solution.

First, i deleted the preferences for the scanner and downloaded the latest driver directly from the Canon website.

(Exactly what the details are of where and how I forgot, because I did this two weeks ago, and then left off where I was).

Today, I started my scanner again and pushed one of the pdf shortcut buttons.

I was then greeted with a window asking me if I wanted to use Image Capture or TWAIN for the scanner.

I selected TWAIN, and then the scanner proceeded to react to me having pushed a pdf button and scanned the document automatically, as I was accustomed to before.

Problem solved.

I hope this works for you too!

Dear A.R.K. (and others).

I apologize for my post above (I found a solution)...

A.R.K., you are right.

This fix does only work ONCE.

In my joy that (I thought) I found a solution, I posted it right away, before trying it for the second time.

It really only does work once. Reinstalling the driver every time just to use the shortcut buttons kind of defeats the purpose.

grrrrr.

I hope Apple and Canon come up with a solution soon.
