Why are the photos I edited on my phone unedited in iPhoto?

I have an iPhone 6 and I edited a bunch of photos on my phone using tools like saturation and gain. When I uploaded them to iPhoto, they were back to their original look as if they weren't edited at all. How do I fix this?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5), Safari

By using Photos for Mac rather than iPhoto.
