Sine updating to El capitan, all images in the main editing windows appear washed out

Sine updating to El capita from Yosemite, all images in the main editing windows appear washed out. However for a few micro seconds they appear fine. The images on the preview pane are not washed out.

Although when I do export them as jpegs the images look ok ,

I would appreciate if somebody can deal with this problem, as its rather disconcerting trying to work with images which appear over exposed and washed out.
