Q: iOS 4.3.5 error 9 when updating to 9.0.2

Dear Mac Experts,

I've been having issues updating my cousin's old iPad 2 WiFi (MC979ZP) from 4.3.5 to 9.0.2. I keep having Error 9 whether I use DFU or any other method. Apart from that, Apple has also stopped signing all versions of Firmware prior to 9.0.2, therefore any older firmware is unusable (Error 3194 without fix even using System32). I was also trying firmware 8.4.1 and older firmware.

By the way, I've tried many different original cables and many different computers, both Mac and Windows, including the garbage bin.

According to Apple's HQ, this could be an "Untested Issue with latest iTunes and iOS9 having a negative effect on very old versions of iOS being upgraded to iOS9".

I'm writing here to seek help from you, if there is any other solution to this issue, and also to hopefully notify Apple's Support on this issue and hope they will fix it on their next version of iTunes.

Warmest Regards,

Mak ********

    MichaelTechMaster,

Thanks for letting me know about 9.1 beta.

I'm not sure if Apple is aware of this issue. So, I'm not sure if is is worth while to try 9.1 beta.

I will wait until I see the release note.

    Guys!
I had the same problem until yesterday.

I was trying update ipad 2 from 4.3.5 to 9.0.2. My iPad hung up on an apple logo (error 9).

After 2 sleepless nights I found this: http://www.tenorshare.com/products/reiboot.html

Just install and clik "exit recovery mode". I still can't upgrade to 9.0.2 but at least iPad is working

I have same problem, and my version is even older 4.3.3, .  Hope Apple can provide a solution soon, since a lots of apps cannot be used due to such old version.

So why would you possibly let over twenty iOS updates pass by over a period of five years or more before deciding maybe it's time to update?

It just used by my son to play some games, sometimes surfed online probably.   Recently, he gave to me, and I want to use it to watch video, and found the apps cannot be used due to the version is too old.

Same problem here. Upgrading an iPad 2 (4.3.5) to iOS 9. I've tried everything I could find on google in order to solve this issue with no success. I event tried update the system using libimobiledevice / idevicerestore with no success. Here is the log if it help some Apple techie to look deeper into the problem:

No Apple technician or engineer will see this. Either send it through feedback or call AppleCare and arrange to send it through them.

I had hoped that iOS 9.1 or iTunes 12.3 would take care of the problem.

    But, wishful thinking.

Well, I guess I have to wait for the next version then.

    Hello,

It's not possible to move from 4.3.3(4 or 5) to 9.02.

To update to 9.0.2, first you have to update to 4.3.5 after this to 5.0 or 5.1.1. When 5.1.1 is ready go to the ipad settings -> general -> software update.

Then apple will invite to update to 8.0 after update 8.0 you will able to update to 9 ios.

The problems is that itune doesn't work with old version of ios and if you try to update with itune to ios 5.0 you will se error 3002 or 3xxx.

Here show how can update to 4.3.X to 5.1.1

    Thanks for the information.

I tried to follow your instruction.

But, in my case, there is no available blobs for my ECID. So, I cannot upgrade to 4.3.5.

    Do you have any suggestion?

    Any help will be appreciated.

Seriously! This is annoying! Why can't Apple fix this!? I'm having the same issue. I've tried everything. This is a great paper weight.

I downloaded the old iTunes, I tried to trick the iPad it was 2011,.... I don't know what else to do.

Having the same problem, tried old ipsw files and tried iTunes 10.1 on an old machine with the latest ipsw. Only the latest ipsw and current version of itunes will check out with the iTunes servers. Looks like we just wait and hope Apple fixes this.
