Q: iOS 4.3.5 error 9 when updating to 9.0.2

Dear Mac Experts,

 

I've been having issues updating my cousin's old iPad 2 WiFi (MC979ZP) from 4.3.5 to 9.0.2. I keep having Error 9 whether I use DFU or any other method. Apart from that, Apple has also stopped signing all versions of Firmware prior to 9.0.2, therefore any older firmware is unusable (Error 3194 without fix even using System32). I was also trying firmware 8.4.1 and older firmware.

 

By the way, I've tried many different original cables and many different computers, both Mac and Windows, including the garbage bin.

 

According to Apple's HQ, this could be an "Untested Issue with latest iTunes and iOS9 having a negative effect on very old versions of iOS being upgraded to iOS9".

 

I'm writing here to seek help from you, if there is any other solution to this issue, and also to hopefully notify Apple's Support on this issue and hope they will fix it on their next version of iTunes.

    If you are getting it on both the PC and the Mac with the same error 27 it is probably a hardware error.

    I also happen to encounter that problem too, all I just do was restart my ipad2 GSM and plug it again update. that solved my problem about error 27

    Just Google it, you will see a download link in Reddit post/comments j, I think its ghost something that has the link of DL sites

    Okay, still getting Error 27, here is what i'm doing,

     

    1. Open latest version of iTunes on Mac.

    2. Plug in iPad

    3. Select the ipsw to update from

    4. Wait about a minute or so

    5. Error 27

    6. Restart ipad via 3rd party software and now back to beginning.

     

    I've tried it again after restarting it through the software and tried turning it off and back on again.

    OMG it finally got past error 27 !!!

     

    I have had the update to 9.3.1 fail so many time I was ready to give up.

     

    Did all the same as before but rather than shift-clicking on update, I shift-clicked on restore. Selected the same ipsw file and it did not give an Error 27.

    Restore completed and I'm now running 9.3.1. Yeah, kinda slow. May see if I can back up to 9.2

    Had I not figured it out earlier today, this would have worked for me. I was hitting "update", not "restore". After updating to 9.3 I got the Ipsw for 9.2 and that's where I currently stand. 9.2 is a little slow, but it's totally bareable. My iPad now is 100 times more useful! Thanks and goodluck guys!

    Thanks so much for all the help everyone - I almost got stuck waiting on Apple to get into the developer program! &I was derping and did the same thing at first, haha. Anyhow, I updated and at long last, am up to speed with the current update! Now to see how it runs. At least I can get current applications now & sign into my email addresses; I'm glad Apple included a way of updating.

    I have ipad 2 GSM with iOS 4.3.5. I tried every **** recommendation to upgrade or restore to 9.2 and could never succeed.

     

    I tried upgrading to iOS 9.3 Beta (iPad2,2_9.3_13E5181d_Restore) but no luck.

     

    Then i tried restore with iOS 9.3.3 (iPad2,2_9.3_13E5181d_Restore) and it worked !!!

    I also have an iPad 2 that I can't restore, I went to Apple Store, they told me the Motherboard was faulty, then with a third party software, I was able to restart it and reach the settings, my version is 4.3.5...

     

    So I do not trust Apple anymore has they clearly want me to buy a new device, saying that the iPad is faulty.... which is wrong.

    They just make the upgrade impossible for some devices, maybe it was announced in your 13821 pages of term and conditions, that I agreed..... No I can't agreed with your method anymore.... bye Apple

    A friend of me brought me an IPAD 2 with firmware 4.3.5. It was sitting in a drawer and he decided to use it now. He told me that he plugged it into the computer, iTunes suggested an update to 9.2 and then it showed error 9 and the screen went black. He tried to restore it with the home + sleep key but to no avail. It took me 2 hours to fix it so if someone has the same problem here are the steps:

    1. Download and install the trial version of Wondershare Dr. Fone for iOS. Start it and follow instructions, then click Recover from iOS Device. That will restore it to previous firmware - in my case 4.3.5.

    2. Google iPad2,2_9.3_13E5181d_Restore - there are links in Reddit, download the file.

    3. Start iTunes, hold alt while clicking Restore, choose the iPad2,2_9.3_13E5181d_Restore.ipsw file and wait until it updates.

     

    Now you have an usable iPAD with 9.3.1 beta version. If you want you can downgrade to 9.2 version. Hopefully Apple will soon release 9.3.1 so update becomes much simpler via iTunes.
