Q: iOS 4.3.5 error 9 when updating to 9.0.2

Dear Mac Experts,

I've been having issues updating my cousin's old iPad 2 WiFi (MC979ZP) from 4.3.5 to 9.0.2. I keep having Error 9 whether I use DFU or any other method. Apart from that, Apple has also stopped signing all versions of Firmware prior to 9.0.2, therefore any older firmware is unusable (Error 3194 without fix even using System32). I was also trying firmware 8.4.1 and older firmware.

By the way, I've tried many different original cables and many different computers, both Mac and Windows, including the garbage bin.

According to Apple's HQ, this could be an "Untested Issue with latest iTunes and iOS9 having a negative effect on very old versions of iOS being upgraded to iOS9".

I'm writing here to seek help from you, if there is any other solution to this issue, and also to hopefully notify Apple's Support on this issue and hope they will fix it on their next version of iTunes.

Warmest Regards,

Mak ********

You are correct. Unfortunately not everybody knows that and wonders why their iPad won't update OTA. The simplest solution is to take your iPad to the Apple Store and have them do it.

Yes but. There is no apple store in my country. Only authorized resellers.

I have very little computer skills and my main reason for replying was to make sure you weren't trying to update OTA. I may not be able to help but we'll see how far we get.

Why won't your iPad update. Does the process just stop or does it give you a error message ? Any info would be helpful.

I write it again. This $$ company only wants to make us to change ipads or iphones every 2 -3 years. I paid my ipad and it is mine. You MUST free the updates so we can use any firmware we want. All people here praying for a $$$ technician to solve the problem. But the fact is even you upgrade the IPAD 2 to the latest firmware it will be slow with huge problems.

You have to respect us because we pay to buy this $$ ipad. So we want right NOW to RESPECT us and  free the firmware so people can choose to upgrade or to downgrade any time they want.

    With $$ respects.

If this "problem" not fix , I think apple will lose some fans : (

I agree Michael said : free the firmware so people can choose to upgrade or to downgrade any time they want !

you can't stop user upgrade and keep some model gone .

open OTA upgrade might good way , but create new fw version to fix this problem is apple company need to do .

more IOS app need upgrade to  IOS5 or IOS6 or more , but we can't get our right . so so sad : (

I have the same problem and it is very frustrating. Apple is telling us practically we buy a new device. My iPad is original and practically new is very unfair not to allow updating. I've tried everything but without success. If anyone knows of new solutions or news. greetings to the community from Venezuela.

I also have a similar situation with ipad2 with ios 4.3.5. Why did no attempts to correct for this problem? Already released ios9.2, but the problem persists.
