Why the volume is gone?

I have just upgraded my MacBook Pro (Late 2011) to OS X El Capitan. But then, the volume is gone. There is only a cross sign under the speaker sign when i wanted to increase/decrease the volume from my Mac. But the volume is there when i use earphone. Do you have any idea how to get the volume back without using earphone? Thank you..

Go step by step and test.

1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers

Highlight Internal Speakers.

Make sure that Mute is not enabled.

2.Plug in and remove the headphone.

If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone

in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.

Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.

Try this even if you don’t see the red light.

3. Reset SMC.

Choose the method for “On Mac notebooks with non-removable battery”.

Make sure that no box is checked under “Mute”.

Make sure that Format 44100.0HZ is selected.
