AE 6th gen, 5 ghz, only shows single channel at 156 mbps. How to optimize and get higher speed, closer to 802.11ac?? Running latest firmware 7.7.3. TIA.

Hi All,

Have Airport Extreme 6th gen. 5 ghz, only shows single channel at 156 mbps. Channel 132.

How to optimize and get higher speed, closer to 802.11ac?? Running latest firmware 7.7.3. Wide Channel is checked. 2.4 ghz seems to be running fine. 5ghz band pretty sparse, not crowded at all.

Thanks in Advance.

In order to receive faster "ac" speeds, both the router and computer need to be "ac" capable devices.

Assuming that is the case, locate the laptop or computer about 10 feet....or 3 meters.....away from the AirPort router with clear line-of-sight between the devices, the run a speed check that way.

Assuming that your AirPort and computer are both "ac" capable devices, you should see a Transmit Rate in the range of 900-1300 Mbps when you check this way. I just ran the same check with an AirPort Extreme 6th Gen and a 2 year old MacBook Pro and the results clocked in at 1300 Mbps.

If your computer is not "ac" capable, then the Transmit Rate number that it displays will depend on the capabilities of the wireless card in the device.
