server 10.6 enable SSL breaks connection to server

Renewed Certificate everything looks fine but when SSL is enabled port 443 can no longer connect to server. Error Safari can not connect to server. Have searched and have tried all that I could find but with no joy. Not being able to connect at all including port 80. This site is hosting web interface to third party application. Main use is internal SSL is for an outside interface with another third party application so the two can share data.
