After downloading El Capitan, I worked on Microsoft Word 2011 file and when I tried to spell check it, I received a dialogue box that said the spelling checker is unavailable because the spelling checker is not installed on my computer. I've been using Microsoft Word 2011 since 2012 with the spell checker. What happened to my spelling checker and how can I get it back?

Do you have a Backup ?
If so Restore the Contents of the Office Folder with something just prior to the Update date.

My backup is at home and I'm at work. I'll try when I get home. Thanks. I'll let you know if that works.
If that does not work you will be stuck with contacting Microsoft to get a replacement.

Ralph, It worked perfectly - going back and restoring the MS Office file via my Time Machine.

MS released a major update for Office for Mac 2011 the other day which was supposed to address many of the compatibility issues with El Capitan. If you haven't installed it already I recommend that you do so.

I had not opened it for a while and it did Update before I checked mine.
