Punching audio on the fly in Logic X

I have always been able to punch audio on the fly in Logic 7 and Logic 8 - when I try to do it in Logic X, I get what looks like midi recorded where the audio should be? My work around has been to use automated punch in and punch out. Anybody know what I am doing wrong?😐
