I want to save a document and when I hit save I only get offered to save to folders from the previous 30 days, how can I change this?

I want to save a pdf document showing in preview, but when I hit save I only get offered to save to folders from the 'previous 30 days', how can I change this to be able to save in any folders I want?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

Don't you see a down arrow close to the file name field ? Clicking on that one will give you access to your whole hard drive in the save dialog.
