No hole in Headphone Mic button

I dont see a hole in my headphone mic button.

wanted to confirm if this is normal or i have a defective piece.

also i have noted that people are unable to hear me clearly until i pull the mic quite near to my mouth.

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 9.0.2
