Hello, I think I had a similar problem with updating from my iPhone 4s to a new iPhone 6S.  After restoring from my old phone I kept getting the welcome screen then a couple more screens then freezing and all I had was a white screen and no response from my new phone.  I thought it was broken.  I could see that there were items on the phone through iTunes but that was all.  I even rang it and it didn't respond.  I left it until the next day as I left it overnight updating - but it had not progressed the next morning.  I am not sure how it was fixed - almost by itself really.  I plugged in again and tried to restore again and a couple of other things and it finally started to respond.  I was helped by having 9.02 to upgrade to - which you haven't got.  However all I can say is persist in trying different things and it will probably resolve.  Sorry I can't be more help.
