Imported audio introduces extreme distortion

Hello,

I have been experiencing significant difficulty with importing audio files into Logic Pro. WAV and MP3 files seem to import fine, and are useable in the project, but whenever I try to import a .AIFF file, the signal level is way to high, and the sound is extremely distorted; the waveform looks like a giant white rectangle. It does not matter whether I am using the audio bin to import audio or simply "dragging and dropping" the audio file from a finder window to a track in Logic; the result is the same.

For both the project and the audio, I am running at 48kHz sample rate/24-bit resolution. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am using Logic Pro v10.0.2 on a mid-2012 MacBook Pro (13", 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7, 8GB Ram, OSX 10.10.3).

Logic Pro X, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3), Logic Pro v10.0.2
