I am trying to sync my new iphone 6 to get the data I backed up from my old phone but the computer keeps telling me I need a new version of itunes, which I already downloaded. When I go to itunes to check, the message is "you have the latest itunes version". How to resolve this?

Sadly you cannot use iTunes in Snow Leopard with iOS9. It has been deemed to be too outdated and Snow Leopard is not capable of running the new iTunes.
