Probably been done a dozen times before but I need to use my Mac for a presentation and the file on my memory stick is in excel and word. Is there a way of opening this and using the documents?

Mickey, TextEdit should open the Word document but you may lose some of the formatting.
openoffice.org is another free suite that will open Word and Excel files.
