i cannot turn my phone off because the notification screen is frozen and will not slide up and i cannot reset because i dont have a home button. dumb apple won't give me any service because i don't have a warranty which is very idiotic.

What do you mean you don't have a home button? Has it been removed?
To do a hard reset you need to hold the power and the home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds.

All iPhones, from day one, have a home button unless it has been physically removed from the phone.
I don't mean to sound rude, but the phone has to have a home button unless the phone was tampered with, which could be the problem in the first place.
duh they all come with buttons. it had a button then the screen cracked and the button became loose. that not the problem though because it was working fine with assistive touch
Per this article, there are only two ways to restart an iPhone: both require the power button and one requires the home button. If your phone is frozen and you can't slide to turn it off, then you may be out of luck.

Also, the iPhone 5S is two years old, as of September 20th. Even if you had AppleCare, there is a good chance it would have ended already. Your best bet may be a third party repair service.
