for the life of me, I can't delete an email account on my iPad iOS 9.0.2.
I tap "Settings"
I tap "Mail, Contacts, Calendars"
I tap the email account I wish to delete.
I search for the "Delete" button that should be at the bottom of that screen...AND THERE IS NONE!!!
All I seem to be able to do is make the account "Inactive"................
Please.....someone help me before I pull all my hair out!!

What email account are you using?
also have you ask your email provider why you can only deactivate your account and not delete it?
the email account is through GoDaddy and is linked to my hosting account and website domain.
I should be able to delete an account I set up on my devices without having to delete the account at the source.....
Apparently in working this out on my own, I discovered this "account" was associated with a "Profile" set up in "Settings"
I opened "Settings" and searched "profiles". It took me where this profile was set up and I deleted it. Now this un-deleteable account is GONE.
I searched what profiles are and some times they are present when your iPad is associated with the company you work for, so be sure there are no dire consequences to removing it if your iPad is owned by the company you work for.
In my case, this is my iPad, associated with no company, so I was able to safely delete this profile without any consequence and it removed the email account.....

Didn't know there was a profile associate with it.
I had no idea Profiles even existed and I still don't know what they are...... I don't know how that particular profile was even created in the first place, so I had no idea to suspect that....
