Locked out of Apple TV won't recognize my password

have been using Apple TV for buying movies& to shows. Bought a new series, watched one episode then when I went to watch the next, got a message saying ' cannot connect to itunes' so I restarted Apple TV but got the same again. I went to login with my password (I had changed it on iTunes a few months ago, so made sense if my Apple TV wanted me to re-enter it) So added the new password and the system continued to give me the same message ' cannot connect to iTunes' so now I am totally locked out of it. As mentioned, I restarted it already, and checked the software update which says 'software up to date' Can anyone help me please, I'm not tecky at all so simple language would be kind. Thanks in advance.
